Murray Released or Transferred?
A Murray County booking can end without a release to the community. The person may post bond, receive a court-ordered release, finish a jail term, or leave after a dismissal. The same closed booking may instead mark a transfer to Lyon County Jail, a Minnesota Department of Corrections facility, another warrant holder, a federal authority, or immigration custody. The exit record must be read for its reason and destination. “Not found” proves only that a person is not shown in that system at that moment.
Murray County released inmates normally drop off a current jail list because that list answers who is held now. The lasting proof is an admission/release entry from the jail that physically held the person. A court case can explain the legal authority, and a VINE notice can capture a timely custody change. Neither one should replace the jail event when the exact physical exit matters. For a state sentence, the DOC record uses different terms and may keep showing someone after prison release while supervision continues.
Murray County Release Types
The release label determines what to check next. Murray County records may describe a bond or recognizance release, time served, a court order, dismissal, probation disposition, or a transfer. Research does not establish the exact labels in the local booking software, so the sheriff's wording should be preserved rather than converted into a broader category. A court order authorizes an exit, but another warrant, detainer, or processing step may delay it.
| Exit type | Meaning | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or conditions | The person leaves physical jail custody while the case continues. | Jail release entry and MCRO bail order |
| Time served | A local jail term has reached its recorded end. | Jail discharge and sentencing record |
| Probation | The court places the person under community supervision instead of, or after, local confinement. | Court disposition and supervising agency |
| DOC commitment | The person moves into state corrections custody. | DOC Public Viewer and Central Records |
| Transfer or hold | Another jail or authority receives the person. | Sending and receiving custody records |
| Final discharge | The named agency's jurisdiction has ended. | Agency discharge record and court file |
Parole, supervised release, and probation are not synonyms. Supervised release follows the prison portion of an executed Minnesota sentence. Probation comes from a court order. Parole chiefly concerns life, indeterminate, and other cases placed within the Minnesota Supervised Release Board's limited authority. A person in any of these categories may be out of secure custody without being free of legal supervision.
Murray County Release Record Fields
Murray County's jail-administration material expressly identifies admission/release records, jail registers, discharge papers, good-time records, and property records. That gives a requester useful vocabulary, but it does not prove that every field is public. A focused request asks for existing data tied to one booking. It also gives enough identifiers to separate people with similar names.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Full name and booking number | Connects the event to the correct jail episode. |
| Admission date and time | Marks when that facility accepted physical custody. |
| Arresting agency and charges | Links the booking to its source and related court matter. |
| Court file number | Provides the strongest key for the MCRO case. |
| Release date and time | Records when physical custody at that jail ended. |
| Release authority or type | Explains why the jail ended the booking. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Separates community release from transfer. |
| Bond details | Helps confirm a bonded exit while the case remains open. |
A projected date is not an actual release field. The same is true of a court order that has not yet been carried out. For a Murray person boarded in Lyon County, ask Murray for its originating and transport records and Lyon for the physical admission and final exit. The two records may cover different parts of one custody chain.
Note: Ask for the agency's exact release value and destination so a transfer is not shortened to the misleading word “released.”
Request Murray County Release Records
The Murray County Sheriff's public-data procedure says to describe the desired data clearly. The office need not create a report or reorganize data into a format it does not keep. Inspection of public data is generally the lowest-cost route. Copies may carry actual permitted costs, so ask for an estimate before authorizing them. Research found no Murray-specific guaranteed response period.
- Identify the person with a full name, an approximate booking date, and a booking or court number when known.
- Ask for existing admission, release, discharge, and transfer data. Name the release date and time, authority, type, and destination.
- State that no new report is requested. Ask the office to provide any segregable public parts and cite the law for a withheld field.
- If the person was boarded elsewhere, send a second request to the jail that held the person physically.
- Compare the response with MCRO and any VINE notice. Record each source's timestamp.

Verify the current public phone and office hours through the county before use.
A request should not sweep in medical, financial, victim, home-address, juvenile, safety, or security data. Those categories may be private or protected. Narrow wording is more likely to return the public event needed to confirm the exit.
Murray Release Law and Limits
Minnesota Statutes section 13.03 begins with the rule that government data are public unless another law classifies them differently. It also calls for access in an appropriate, prompt, and reasonable way. A requester generally need not explain a purpose. The agency may charge authorized copy costs, while inspection of public data at the agency is generally free.
Section 13.82 controls law-enforcement data, including arrest information and booking photographs. Section 13.85 covers corrections and detention data at prisons, county jails, lockups, and similar facilities. Medical, financial, safety-sensitive, informant, active-investigation, and security information can remain nonpublic even when the basic custody event is public.
Section 299C.14 requires release officials to report specified identification, service-period, and discharge information to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. That reporting rule does not make every BCA field available in an open public search. Murray County has not published a verified online retention period for released names. A sealed or expunged case must not be reconstructed through cached copies when official access is restricted.
Murray Property Records After Release
The local jail-administration description names personal-property and clothing records alongside release and discharge records. Someone trying to resolve property from a Murray County booking should identify that booking and contact the jail maintaining the property record. A DOC property or status issue belongs with the Minnesota Department of Corrections, not the county jail, because the two systems keep separate files.
A correction request should point to the precise error and source. For a jail record, include the booking number, dates, and the field believed to be wrong. For a DOC sentence or status question, use DOC data requests or Central Records at co-records.doc@state.mn.us. Chapter 13 does not require either agency to create an explanation it does not maintain, though the Public Viewer itself directs detailed sentence questions to the facility or Central Records.
Find Murray County Released Inmates
Begin with the last known custody, not with a broad name search. Murray County's use of Lyon County for boarding makes this essential. The gold-standard sequence follows the record from the originating agency to the facility that performed the final physical exit. A person may also move from a county booking into DOC, federal, or immigration custody.
- Classify the case as Murray jail, Lyon boarding, state prison, federal criminal custody, or immigration detention.
- Search the matching live system. Use Minnesota VINE for a specific county-jail person, DOC Public Viewer for a state commitment, BOP for federal imprisonment, or ICE for current civil detention.
- Open the Murray criminal case in MCRO. Compare bail, dismissal, sentence, warrant, probation, and discharge events.
- Ask the physical jail whether the person left its custody and whether the destination was the community or another agency.
- Request the existing admission/release record when an online result is absent, unclear, or no longer available.
- Follow every named transfer and save the source, timestamp, and identifiers used.
The county has no verified official recent-release feed. The Murray County 24-Hour Releases route therefore uses a defined date range, VINE, and the sheriff record rather than a fabricated list. Match a middle name, date of birth or age, OID, court file, and booking identifier when those fields are lawfully available. A common-name match is not enough.
Search Minnesota DOC Release Status
The Minnesota DOC Public Viewer covers adults committed to the Commissioner who remain under DOC jurisdiction. It can include people in prison and people who have left prison but remain on supervised release. It is not a Murray County jail roster, and it is not promised as a permanent archive after final discharge.
| Viewer item | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and OID | Match identity before relying on the record. |
| Current status | Distinguishes prison, community supervision, and other listed placements. |
| Location or supervision office | Names the holding or responsible DOC location, not a home address. |
| Offense and case data | Links the state record to the court sentence. |
| Date labels | Must be copied exactly because projected release, confinement release, and expiration differ. |
The official Public Viewer entry screen shows the state search interface. Open the DOC search source before entering an identifying value.
The captured screen is a route into DOC records, not proof about any person. Record each label exactly and contact Central Records when a release date or status needs explanation. A no-result can mean a county-only case, an identity mismatch, final discharge outside viewer scope, a nonpublic record, or a timing issue.
Check Murray Release Court Disposition
Murray criminal matters belong to the Fifth Judicial District. Minnesota Court Records Online can show a Register of Actions with bail orders, conditions, pleas, dismissals, sentencing, warrants, probation events, and discharge. Search by case number when possible. It avoids many name collisions and ties the event to the correct prosecution.
A court entry explains legal action, not the minute the jail completed physical release. Holds and processing can intervene. No MCRO result also has several meanings: nonconviction name-search limits, expungement, an older nonelectronic case, an unavailable record type, or destruction under a retention schedule. Contact Murray County Court Administration for public records that are not remotely available.
The official Murray court page supplies current contact and access details. Review the Murray County District Court source before planning a visit.
The court source adds legal context to a Murray County release. Pair it with the jail's time, type, and destination field to prove the actual custody exit.
Murray Recent Release Feed Gap
The July 24, 2026 channel sweep found no official Murray County 24-hour, 72-hour, recent-release, or released-person page. It also found no official sheriff mobile app with a release tab. An internal admission/release record is not the same as a public feed, and an old commercial roster does not establish a rolling release window.
For one known person, use Minnesota VINE and ask Murray or Lyon whether the person remains physically held. For a past event, request the admission/release entry. For a date window, ask for existing jail-register or admission/release data whose custody end falls within the stated start and end times, while making clear that the sheriff need not create a new report. Weekend and holiday timing may increase the need to check a wider range, but no Murray publication cadence is known.
Note: Current-roster absence cannot show whether a Murray detainee went home, returned to Murray, entered DOC, or moved to another authority.
Murray Post-Release Supervision
Ordinary Minnesota supervised release follows the prison part of an executed sentence. Probation is ordered by the court and may occur without a state-prison commitment. The Minnesota Supervised Release Board handles limited statutory categories, including certain life, indeterminate, certified-adult, and specified criminal-sexual-conduct cases. It is not a traditional parole board for every state sentence.
- Supervised release
- Community service of the remaining executed sentence under DOC authority.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision tied to a criminal disposition.
- Parole
- Board-controlled release chiefly used in defined life and indeterminate cases.
- Absconder
- A person alleged to be evading supervision, not a finding of a new offense.
- Discharge
- The end of the named agency's jurisdiction over that sentence.
The official county assignment routes Murray County to the DOC Marshall field office at 601 Highway 59 N in Marshall, 507-476-4330. Start with Public Viewer status and OID. The office may limit agent, schedule, address, or condition details because supervision files include nonpublic data. A new warrant or revocation can return a formerly released person to custody, so date every check.
Murray Federal Release Checks
Minnesota VINE covers county-jail custody and release notifications, including participating Murray and Lyon records. Minnesota Haven is the separate notification path for people sentenced to the Commissioner and in DOC custody or community supervision. A VINE alert should be read in full because a custody change may be a transfer. It is not a permanent county release archive.
For a federal prison sentence, use the BOP Inmate Locator. It can show former prisoners with a release date. “Released” or “not in BOP custody” describes only BOP custody and does not rule out a state case, USMS pretrial holding, immigration detention, or another placement. The official federal search screen illustrates the system used for that separate custody track.
The BOP interface is relevant only when the person entered the federal prison system. A Murray record marked USMS calls for the federal court case and the responsible Marshals Service district. An ICE handoff should be checked through the ICE Online Detainee Locator; it is a transfer of custody, not community release. No BOP prison or verified ICE contract detention center was found in Murray County.
Compare Murray Release Records
Each system answers a different question. Use the narrowest source that owns the custody event, then compare it with the court or receiving agency. A disagreement should be reported with both timestamps until the record owner explains it.
| Source | What it answers | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Murray or Lyon current source | Whether the person is shown in that jail now | Absence does not prove release |
| Jail admission/release record | When physical custody ended and the recorded destination | Must come from the jail that held the person |
| Minnesota VINE | Specific-person county custody status and alerts | Agency-fed and not a permanent archive |
| DOC Public Viewer | State custody or supervised-release status | Only people still within viewer scope |
| MCRO | Legal orders and case disposition | Not a live custody monitor |
| BOP or ICE | Federal prison history or current civil detention | Does not resolve all other jurisdictions |
Question: Does removal from the Murray jail list prove release? No. It establishes only that the person is not displayed there at that time. Ask for the exit type and destination, especially because Murray uses Lyon County for boarding.
Murray County Release Facilities
Murray County Jail is the primary local adult detention facility. Lyon County Jail is a documented boarding destination for Murray prisoners, so both agencies can hold records from one custody episode. Minnesota DOC facilities serve people committed to the Commissioner. BOP and ICE operate separate federal systems, although no such detention facility was verified inside Murray County.
The map also identifies two essential record destinations. The Minnesota DOC Marshall field office routes state supervision for Murray County, while Murray County District Court holds the criminal case record. These are not jails, yet each can explain what happened after confinement. The dedicated Murray County Jail release page follows the local facility's record and transfer path.
- Murray County Jail, local booking, release, discharge, and transfer records
- Lyon County Jail, physical custody for documented Murray boarding
- Minnesota state correctional facilities, prison custody and supervised release
- Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities, sentenced federal custody
- ICE detention system, current civil immigration detention
- Minnesota DOC Marshall field office, supervision routing
- Murray County District Court, case orders and disposition
Documented cross-county boarding is the central Murray release risk. A closed local booking can be the start of another custody segment. Keep three findings separate: not currently shown, recorded as transferred, and confirmed released to the community.
